Student protection reporting obligations flowchart
Governing bodies have an essential role in creating safe school environments and supporting student wellbeing, which is a key priority of the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board. Under section 16 of the Education Accreditation of Non-State Schools Regulation 2017 (EANSS Regulation), schools must have written processes about the conduct of staff and students and response to harm.
A school’s written processes must include a process for reporting:
- sexual abuse or suspected sexual abuse, under section 366 of the Education General Provisions Act 2006 (EGP Act), (EANSS Regulation section 16(2)(c)(i))
- a suspicion of likely sexual abuse, under section 366A of the EGP Act (EANSS Regulation section 16(2)(c)(ii)), and
- a reportable suspicion, under section 13E of the Child Protection Act 1999 (CP Act) (EANSS Regulation section 16(2)(d)).
The Student protection reporting flowchart details the mandatory reporting requirements under the EGP Act and CP Act as prescribed by section 16 of the EANSS Regulation 2017. Download the Student protection reporting flowchart [PDF 279KB].
